Connection!
Hey Kids and Parents
- here are some fun ideas to try outside!
- A-Z scavenger hunt - Gather some friends outside
and try to find as many things for each letter
of the alphabet as you can. For example, for the
letter "B" you could find bark, a branch or a berry.
The detective who finds something for the most
letters wins!
- Oranges for Orioles - Have you ever seen a
Baltimore Oriole? (No, not the ones in baseball
uniforms!) These pretty yellow birds come back
to the Cape Cod area, after migrating south for
the winter, around Mothers Day every year and they
love oranges. You can make a great Oriole feeder
by simply cutting an orange in half and either
putting it on the railing of a deck where there
isn't a great deal of foot traffic, or nailing
the orange halves to a tree. Then just sit back
and observe!
- Get to know your yard - Do you know what kinds
of trees or flowers you have in your backyard?
Did you know that you can tell what kind of trees
you share your space with by looking at the bark
and leaves? Take a backyard survey and see how
many different kinds of trees you can find. How
can you tell they are different? Can you draw pictures
that show the differences between various types
of trees? Check out a tree identification book
from your local library and get to know your yard!
