ABOUT US
Orenda
Wildlife Land Trust is a private nonprofit land trust
working to preserve and protect open space for wildlife
habitat on Cape Cod and throughout Massachusetts. Orenda
takes its name from a Seneca Indian word meaning "protected
place" and was inspired by the Orenda
Song of Praise.
Orenda's mission is to protect wildlife and wildlife
habitat. Orenda acquires land to be held in perpetuity
as protected open space wildlife sanctuaries, and assist
others in protecting open space for wildlife.
Orenda currently manages 14 wildlife sanctuaries totaling
330 acres, the majority of which are located on Cape
Cod and southeastern Massachusetts. Orenda has helped
to protect nearly 800 acres of land since its founding
in 1986.
Orenda is a member of the Compact
of Cape Cod Conservation Trusts and is a
founding partner of the Mashpee
National Wildlife Refuge.
Orenda offers educational information for the public
on issues related to wildlife and works to promote the
peaceful co-existence of people and wildlife on Cape
Cod and throughout Massachusetts.
Orenda's support comes from over 500 members, private
foundations, its endowment, gifts and special events.
